Network-First Architecture

Built for operational Quantum Secure Networks (QSN)

MDI-QKD is a QKD architecture in which quantum measurements are performed at a center hub station that does not need to be trusted. Quantum entanglement ensures secret key material is never present there. Moreover, this architecture removes all detector side-channel vulnerabilities from the security model, naturally supports multiple QKD nodes and provides a powerful foundation for scalable QSN. Falqon® has engineered MDI-QKD into a network-first architecture designed for operational deployment.

Supports hub-and-spoke, ring and advanced network topologies, enabling multi-node Quantum Secure Networks (QSN) rather than isolated point-to-point links.

Enhanced Security

MDI-QKD fundamentally removes detector-side channel attacks from the security model while enabling quantum key generation.

New QKD locations require only a single fiber connection to a Center Hub, without deploying pair-wise connections to every location. Lightweight QKD End Nodes simplify deployment while reducing hardware complexity as the network expands.

Supports resilient Quantum Secure Networks (QSN) through redundant Center Hubs, path diversity and dynamic routing, helping eliminate single points of failure.

System Hardware

The Falqon® MDI-QKD components

  1. 1MQT4000 QKD End Node
    Quantum key generation: Generates quantum keys and securely delivers them to connected cryptographic applications through the embedded Falqon® Key Management System.
  2. 2MQX4000 Center Hub
    Quantum network connectivity and measurement: Performs the central quantum measurements required for MDI-QKD while securely connecting multiple QKD End Nodes without accessing secret key material.
  3. 3MQS4000 Quantum Optical Switch
    Dyanmic quantum optical routing: Dynamically routes quantum signals across shared fiber infrastructure, enabling flexible network topologies, resilient routing and scalable network expansion.
